Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto

SCSMM, Admiral, Italian Navy and President of the Committee Strategic Management, Polo Nazionale di Dimensione Subacquea (PNS)

Vice Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto was born on March 20th 1963. He attended the Naval Academy in Livorno from 1982 to 1986 obtaining a University Degree in Maritime and Naval Sciences.

Embarked on ITS Libeccio as Weapons Department Officer, he specialized in Fire Control Systems and served on board ITS Maestrale as Head of the Weapons Department.

In 1994/95 he was the “plank owner” Commanding Officer of water-supply ship ITS Ticino, upon completion of its commissioning to the Navy. Later on, he embarked on board destroyer ITS Audace as Head of the Operations Department. From 1998 to 2001 he served first as instructor, and then as Academic Officer within the Seamenship and Navigation Department of the Professional Development Division at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis (USA).

From 2001 to 2003, he was appointed as Commanding Officer to the 4th and 5th year Midshipmen at the Naval Academy in Livorno. In 2004/05 he was Commanding Officer of the guided missile frigate ITS Scirocco, participating in many NATO training and operational activities.

From 2005 to 2007 he was posted at the Italian Navy new constructions and outfittingCenter, as responsible of the final outfitting activities of AAW destroyer ITS Andrea Doria, on board which ship he became the “plank owner” Commanding Officer (2007-2010),

From May 2012 to June 2016 he served as Head of Financial Department at the Navy General Staff.

From July 2016 to December 2017 he was appointed as Commander, Second Naval Division Command and NATO COIWTMARFOR,

He also performed two at-sea duties as Force Commander of the European Operation“Sophia”, from June 2016 to April 2017 and from November 2017 to February 2018.

From February 2018 he served as Commander, Rome Local Maritime Command until July 2020 as well as Head of the General Affairs Department at the Navy General Staff until December 2021.

From October 2020 to December 2021 he was the Director of the Navy Personnel Directorate.

On December 16th, 2021 he was appointed Deputy Chief of the Italian Navy and, from January 25th, 2023 he assumed the secondary duty of President of the Italian Navy Officers and Petty Officers Clubs.
